The Public Draft of the Columbia Zoning Ordinance (Code) is now available for review by the community! Download a copy from the link at right or click the image below to review. You can also watch a video of the Public Draft Presentation on September 13th, and download the slide show from that evening's presentation.

The updated Code will...

  • Protect the most-loved parts of the City;
  • Enhance areas that need improvement;
  • Create more predictable outcomes;
  • Create something for everyone and the right place for everything;
  • Balance all modes of transportation;
  • Enhance economic viability of the area;
  • Be easier to use and administer; and
  • Be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan

Some of the topics included in the updated Code are:

  • Nonconformities;
  • District descriptions;
  • Building, lot, and building site standards (building types, parking, uses, signage, etc.);
  • Thoroughfares and internal drives;
  • Traffic circulation;
  • Floodplain protection;
  • Sign standards; and
  • Applications & development review procedures.

Next Steps:
The public review period for the Public Draft will continue through Wednesday, October 13. Comments will be received by Paul Keltner at paul@columbiatn.com. The City of Columbia will review all comments before passing them on to the consultant, TPUDC, for final revisions. The Code will then go before Planning Commission and City Council for final adoption.
